Here is why the p2 air is perfect for you coming to pickleball over from tennis
6.9.3.1.1 For Paddles with Consistent Surface Finish, the test procedure will be as follows: (i) Both sides of the paddle’s surface will be tested in the approximate center. Roughness measurements will be performed across the six directions (1: down direction, 2: up direction, 3: right direction, 4: left direction, 5: upper right direction and 6: lower left direction). See figure 2 below. (ii) The allowable limits for roughness will be no greater than 30 micrometers (µm) on the Average Rz reading (Average Maximum Profile Height). (iii) The allowable limits for roughness will be no greater than 40 micrometers on the Average Rt reading (Maximum Profile Height).
Essentially, dwell time is how long the ball dwells on the paddle face upon making contact. Deflection is how quickly the ball departs from the paddle face upon contact. In colloquial terms, deflection = ‘pop’.
According to USA Pickleball’s website:
The test used to measure the rigidity of a paddle is the Deflection Test. When subjected to the tests, the paddles must meet the following requirements:
- 5 thousandths of an inch or less at a test weight of 3 kg.
- 10 thousandth of an inch or less at a test weight of 5 kg.
Paddles that exceed these specifications may produce a trampoline effect and will be placed on the USA Pickleball Approved list as Fail.
